Céline Vahsen

Céline Vahsen's practice is rooted in a perceptual dialogue between structure and colour, where their interplay gradually transforms over time into a tangible, abstract image. Grounded in the textile medium, her work translates this historical heritage into a contemporary context. Naturally dyed threads accumulate through repeated gestures that weave between past and future. Each work emerges from the tension between chance and order, as well as from an ongoing dialogue between the artist and the material. Stretched on frames, the canvases begin to function as paintings, emphasizing the autonomy of the textile. By positioning textile as both medium and image, Vahsen challenges conventional classifications of representation, blurring the boundaries between craft and fine art while questioning how images are formed, constructed and perceived.
